Government & Politics

A-Level Politics is the study of the current political landscape of both the UK and USA. From Trump to May, from Putin to Farage, you will study contemporary and controversial political issues that are similar to those discussed in university lectures. Skills required: be able to listen to the views of others and be able to critically analyse them and the ability to be perceptive of the world around you.

Success in this course could lead to a wide range of career opportunities and possible degree courses with excellent transferable skills such as problem solving, communication and thinking skills valued in many professions, for example, law, business and administration, the police service, journalism, teaching and the media.

Assessment in the course: 3 exams at the end of year 13; 2 hour exam on UK politics, 2 hour exam on US and comparative politics, 2 hour exam on political theories.

All exams are of the same skill set so students will find exam skills easier than in subjects where the exam style changes.

Entry Requirements:

Students need to have achieved a minimum of 6 grades 5-9 incl. English and Maths and should be aiming to achieve a minimum grade 6 in GCSE History.
