This course will involve looking at and exploring the structure and function of living organisms; from the building blocks of cells to whole organisms and how they interact in the environment within which they exist. Biology develops an essential knowledge and understanding of the different areas of science and how they relate to each other.
Studying A Level Biology will suit students who have a keen interest in any aspect of biology, including biochemistry, ecology, physiology, genetics, evolution and the environment. Many students studying A Level Biology go on to study courses at university such as Agriculture/Horticulture; Biological Sciences; Diagnostic Radiography; Forensic Analysis; Medicine; Nursing; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Physiotherapy; Science Journalism; Sport Science & Exercise; Zoology.
Assessment in the course: 100% External Examination. Practical endorsement reported separately.
Students need to have achieved a minimum of 6 grades 5-9 incl. English and Maths and should be aiming to achieve a minimum grade 6 in GCSE Sciences.
