Kids automatically and subconsciously read more when we turn on subtitles! Turning on the subtitles while children are watching television can double the chances of a child becoming good at reading. It’s so brilliantly simple and can help children’s literacy so much. Same Language Subtitling (SLS) has, for years, been recognised for language learning but there is also strong and growing evidence that subtitling helps improve reading skills. Our school library was forced to close, as a result of the pandemic, and we know how important it is for our students to have access to free books. They can now explore a catalogue of over 2000 titles via the Sora App. T

Here at CCHS, World Book Day is always an exciting day of celebrating authors, books and the joy of reading.  Whilst this year might be a little different, since we have been working remotely, there are still lots of fun ways to enjoy the annual celebration from home and promote the CCHS ‘love of reading’ culture. CCHS PROUD Community

As part of their ‘CCHS PROUD in the Community’ focus, a group of our Year 10 and 11 students, who all play for Holland Football Club, are raising money and awareness for Blood Cancer UK. Throughout February and into March the nine boys have been collectively aiming to run at least 750km and hoping to raise £1 for every kilometre they complete.
